DescriptionUniversiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) is a leading public university which focuses on Ocean studies and Aquatic resources. Institute of Marine Biotechnology (IMB) was formed in 26 February 2008 to spearhead the R&D&C activities in the area of marine biotechnology. With the main goal to become a leading research institute in the said area, IMB overarching objectives are to provide state-of-the-art facilities, to promote collaboration among researchers locally and internationally, and, to enhance the discovery of new knowledge in the area of marine biotechnology. Various initiatives have been carried out such as the development of unique repositories for biota, natural and synthetic products as well as marine micro-organisms, and, the acquisition of high-end equipment such as high content screening, nuclear magnetic resonance and advanced mass spectrometry. Therefore, all these efforts together with highly motivated researchers, IMB is set to become a reference center in Marine Natural Products and Drug Discovery at the national and regional levels which is also in line with our country effort to develop biotechnology as one of the core sectors in bio economy and green technology.
